About Course

Precise and sensitive mechanisms maintain body pH and various buffers play important roles to keep the pH within the normal range. Important buffering systems include carbonic acid, carbon dioxide, phosphates, and many body proteins. The major organs involved are the kidneys and the lungs. The measurement and interpretation of the pH, along with various gases and ions like carbon dioxide and bicarbonate, can help us understand the underlying pathological processes and aid us in the diagnosis, treatment, and treatment monitoring of seriously sick patients. This lecture series consists of six videos. The first video explains the interpretation of arterial blood gases. The subsequent four videos describe individual defects like metabolic acidosis or alkalosis etc.   In the last video, we shall see a few real-world cases to help us interpret and apply arterial blood gas analysis.
